This past week, I attended a Special Kids Photography workshop in Atlanta hosted by Dan & Micki Simkem of Tripod Photography. The primary mission of SKPA is to represent special children to professional photographers in an effort to expand exceptional photographic opportunities to these children on a national level. This unique focus is accomplished through training and education, awareness, funding development and photographic industry support. The process of becoming certified is four-fold – the photographer must first attend a workshop, take a test, submit 4 photographs of children with special needs and 3 letters of recommendations from the parents. I am currently working towards this certification as I believe every child deserves timeless images.
I can’t have a post without sharing some images. Here are a couple from a recent session with a little boy who has autism. His Mom and Grandfather are working with Leisa Hammett and myself on the Heartache to Hope project. We are telling the stories of Middle Tennessee families living with autism.

Pretty Ballerina

I meet one of my favorite models downtown last week for a classic ballerina session. I took mostly B&W film shots (yes, I still use that old stuff) but I had to take just a few digital images. I can’t wait to play around in the darkroom with the images captured on film and I’ll share once I have some printed, but until then, here are a couple of the images captured using my newfangled digital camera! LOL
